Hazard Communication Training is a crucial step to create a safer and healthier workplace environment in which employees understand the potentially hazardous nature of chemicals, as well as the risks and responsibilities they face when they work with chemicals. By providing this training, employees are more aware of safety protocols and can take steps to prevent accidents and injuries, thereby reducing the likelihood of workplace chemical-related injuries and illnesses.

The purpose of OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard for General Industry (29CFR 1910.1200) and Construction Industry (29CFR 1926.59) is to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are classified, and that information concerning the classified hazards is transmitted to employers and employees. The requirements of this section are intended to be consistent with the provisions of the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), Revision 3. The transmittal of information is to be accomplished by means of comprehensive hazard communication programs, which are to include container labeling and other forms of warning, safety data sheets and employee training.

Course Objectives:

1. Understand the purpose of OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and its requirements

2. Recognize the physical and health hazards associated with the chemicals they use in the workplace

3. Identify the precautionary measures necessary to protect themselves from chemical hazards, including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

4. Read and interpret safety data sheets (SDS) to obtain accurate information about the hazards of chemicals they work with

5. Understand the requirements for labeling of hazardous chemicals, including the symbols and language used

6. Comprehend the importance of hazard communication in preventing accidents, illnesses, and injuries in the workplace

7. Be able to locate and use appropriate hazard communication resources and reference materials both in the workplace and online.

OSHA Regulatory Information will also be included in the training to ensure employees have a clear understanding of:

1. The purpose and scope of the Hazard Communication standard (29 CFR 1910.1200)

2. The responsibilities of employers and employees in the implementation of the HCS

3. The requirements for chemical hazard communication, including safety data sheets (SDS) and labeling

4. The hazards associated with chemicals in the workplace

5. How to read and interpret chemical labels, warnings, and hazard symbols.

By the end of this training program, employees will have a strong understanding of workplace chemical hazards and how to protect themselves and others from chemical-related injuries and illnesses. They will also understand their rights and responsibilities under OSHA’s regulatory standards.

Why Should You Attend:

All employees who have the potential to be exposed to hazardous chemicals should attend Hazard Communication Training. This includes employees who work with the chemicals, those who store or handle them, and those who may be exposed to them during an emergency. This training should not be limited to only the employees in direct contact with hazardous materials; instead, all employees in the workplace should be aware of the hazards, and how to respond to them.
